Music scenes lose uniqueness due to global internet exposure

Because of the reach of the internet, music scenes are essentially co-opted by the world. They no longer stay localized where they mature and gestate into something unique. Instead they are discovered quickly and are incorporated into the mass of culture which smooths out their distinctness.

If scenes begin to emerge these days, they don’t stay local for long as their digital reach goes far beyond the manor. They trend online and become bought into or appropriated by the masses and diluted designed by committee — a fragment of what it once was. The gestation period is cut short and all before the scene has really reached its cultural epoch.—
